The Association is formed for the purpose of promoting orderly development and conduct of the business of Family Entertainment Centres (FEC) and to represent the common interest of its members in dealing with government agencies, local authorities, organizations, companies or persons, on matters relating to Family Entertainment Centres operations in the country.
The Association was first formed in October 2001 as The Malaysian Association of Family Entertainment Centres (MAFEC) in accordance with Registration of Organisations Act 1966. In 2003, the Association was renamed ‘PERSATUAN TAMAN THEMA & PUSAT HIBURAN KELUARGA MALAYSIA’ or ‘MALAYSIAN ASSOCIATION OF AMUSEMENT THEMEPARK & FAMILY ATTRACTION’ in line with growing membership numbers and their operating natures which include outdoor theme parks, water parks, wild life parks and amusement parks.
MAATFA aims to :-
- Provide a forum for discussion of issues in FEC operation
- Represent the members collectively in matters relating to FEC operations Malaysia
- Enable members to act jointly on matters of common interest and to represent members in communications with other bodies and the public
- Encourage every aspect of FEC operations in Malaysia in order to raise standards and enhance the quality of FEC in Malaysia
- Support the development of FEC facilities in Malaysia
- Encourage the development and promotion of Family Entertainment machines and softwares in Malaysia
- Maintain and foster trade ethics and fair business practices among members
- Foster good relationship and encourage greater cooperation amongst members
